Harvest tips for kiwis stored in modules

To avoid acidity, it is advised not to harvest kiwis too early.
The indicator to be followed for the beginning of the harvest is the Brix degree; the harvest can start from 6,2° Brix; we advise to harvest at 7° Brix. Firmness is also to be followed: a minimum firmness of 8.1 Kg / cm² is recommended for optimal conservation.
Do not store kiwis harvested in the rain or showing signs of disease.

Storage of kiwis in modules

Allow the peduncular attachment scar to heal for at least one day, ideally two days, at 20°C prior to module placement (this will reduce the incidence of Botrytis cinerea). Then quickly cool the kiwis.
The kiwifruit can be put into modules in bulk or in crates; the membrane surface is adapted accordingly.
Wait until the kiwifruit have reached the storage temperature before closing the controlled atmosphere lids. The temperature can be between 0 and 2°C.
As kiwi fruit is very sensitive to ethylene, it must not be stored in the same cold room as apples.
Carry out regular monitoring of gas levels, especially at the beginning of storage. The CO2 level must remain below 7%.
